General Engineering Limited (GEL) was founded in 1962 by Khunying Chatchani Chatikavanij to engage in the manufacturing of concrete product such as prestressed concrete piles, bridge girders and electric posts, As Thailand was poised for rapid development, GEL saw an immense need for construction materials whick would meet international standards.

Consequently, GEL began importing new technologies and rccommending the use of prestressed concrete piles in place of wooden piles which were still popular at that time. The expanded use of prestressed concrete piles enabled the construction of much larger and higher buildings in Bangkok and ushered in a new era of development in the country.

As the pace of Thailand development increased, GEL executive realized other technologies would be required for construction in increasingly congested Bangkok. Consequently, post-tensioned slab CCL system were introduced in 1968 and, in 1977, GEL introduced the "bored pile" procedd foundation and later development it as demand increased. Both have facilitated more ambitious construction projects here.

Over past decade, GEL has continued to expand and diversify its product line, adding Glassfiber Reinforced Concrete (Pilkington TM), DENKA special cement products, TENSAR soil reinforcement geogrid, drainage system, CIPEC expansion joints, bridge bearing (MAGEBA) and precast hollow core slab and other innovations. GEL is committed to bringing state - of - the - art engineering technology to Thailand and expanding its markets througout the region. Since 1990 GEL has been listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).
